Just curious. I realize there are friendly folks everywhere, but generally, do you find them especially friendly and down-to-earth in any areas in particular?

No. You get a mix of people everywhere. When people say a certain area has people that are 'just oh so friendly' they are BSing you |

Mainly in rural areas is where I've found them. It's not a strictly southern thing at all. |

The province of Newfoundland Canada. You see, life there has been a real struggle for hundreds of years. People's lives depended on helping on another through hard times. The people there seem to have different values than most North Americans. Sure money is handy to have but there are things far more important. Most Newfies that I have known have that attitude. It sure must be very attractive to them because every one of them who has moved off their rock hopes some day to return to their home. |

I would say I'm grasping at straws if I want to name "friendly places" or "unfriendly places". I'm insular and distrusting of people whereas someone else who is open and loving of people will say totally different things. It's really in the eye of the beholder. |

small towns everywhere Quote: Originally Posted by annie_himself Mainly in rural areas is where I've found them. It's not a strictly southern thing at all. I agree with smaller rural cities and towns "anywhere" and not specific to any region or area. Small town America tends to be friendly and helpful towards others. The larger metro cities seem to have people that are too busy and too skeptical of others, they tend to be "on guard" against strangers. |

New York City. Go ahead, ask people who've visited here. The people who express horror at this notion are the ones who need to get a life. |
